Barny Revill is an award-winning premium documentary director drawn to ambitious films that combine scale, jeopardy and emotional punch.

Barny has built a reputation for creating visually ambitious, emotional, human narratives that take place in some of the more extreme parts of our natural world. His work spans premium natural history, adventure documentary, presenter-led factual, branded film and authored feature documentary. He has worked for the BBC, Netflix, Nat Geo/Disney+, ITV and Discovery.

Known for balancing cinematic scale with strong human storytelling, in 2019 he teamed up with Silverback Films and Stephen Spielberg's Amblin Entertainment to take a creative lead on one of the biggest non-fiction commissions ever made by Netflix - ‘Life On Our Planet’, helping it secure multiple awards and a primetime Emmy nomination. He has just completed producing and directing his first feature length documentary for Netflix, and is currently working on his second - a music doc for theatrical release.

Combining large-scale field production expertise with strong editorial oversight, he has worked in some of the most challenging locations on earth. From filming on Everest, under Arctic ice and deep in the Congo, Barny has directed  many high profile talents, successfully translating sophisticated factual ideas into accessible, emotionally engaging television. Barny has taken Davina McCall to the extremes in a four part series for ITV, directed Chris Packham in a popular factual format for the BBC  ‘Me and My Dog – the Ultimate Challenge‘, directed multiple seasons of the ratings hit ‘River Monsters’ with Jeremy Wade, as well as co-producing an independent feature-doc ‘Her Shark Story’, and acting as a script-consultant on another feature-doc for Disney+ ‘Guardians of the Galapagos’.

Barny’s work is defined by a rare combination of visual confidence, rigorous factual storytelling and instinctive human accessibility. His films always find warmth, jeopardy and wonder within subjects that might otherwise feel remote.

Equally comfortable building films from concept, directing at scale in the field, or shaping complex narrative in the edit, Barny brings both creative leadership and practical production rigour from conception through to final delivery.

Alongside his documentary work, Barny has also directed a variety of commercials for clients including Dulux, Battersea Dogs and Cats Home and Next Trip Vacations.  His films have won numerous awards, connecting strongly with audiences commercially, and clips from his films have amassed more than 200 million views online!
