Johanna is a creative award-winning Specialist Factual Showrunner & Executive Producer, consistently delivering compelling and genre-defining factual series for major clients including Netflix, Disney+, National Geographic, History (A&E Networks), Smithsonian, Sky History, Science Channel & Discovery.
As Showrunner, her recent documentary credits include DAMIAN LEWIS: SPY WARS for Sky History, described by the Wall Street Journal as ‘exceptionally nuanced’ and ‘eight chapters of enthralling power’. The series was nominated for a Broadcasting Press Guild Award for Best Documentary Series.
Two of her films from the BAFTA nominated Series 4 of Nat Geo’s DRAIN THE OCEANS were winners of the New York Festivals TV & Film Awards in the Science & Technology and History & Science categories.
Johanna’s experience in high end drama-documentary has been with some of the industry’s most prestigious production companies, and includes History’s biggest ever drama-doc commission, COLOSSEUM: uncovering the dark realities of life in the Roman Empire through the microcosm of its most bloody arena, and which critics termed ‘a thrilling story, with no small amount of human drama’.
As Executive Producer, she has close to 100 hours of programming experience, across a wide range of budget tariffs. She’s a ‘first-series’ specialist, adept at launching new & successful repeating formats, as well as re-vamping series for relaunch. She also works with companies to trouble shoot existing productions. Her work is engaging and stylish, with a lightness of touch.
Johanna has also overseen the development strategy for several scripted/non-scripted hybrid series for major US networks, and consulted as Executive Producer throughout the editing phase of feature-length landmark mega-docs.
