Posted 2 November 2026: Stern & Wild filmmaker Tara Jang is set to brighten our autumn nights with the launch this week of her new culinary adventure show for Apple TV, THE UNLIKELY COOK WITH AWKWAFINA.
Tara is Series Producer on the eight-part show which follows actor and comedian Nora Lum, aka Awkwafina, as she makes a personal journey across the USA to explore contemporary Asian American cuisine, starting with her own family’s remarkable legacy.
Awkwafina’s family ran Lum’s, an iconic Cantonese restaurant in Flushing, New York, and the very first in a now thriving Chinatown. The twist is that despite growing up in the family business, THE FAREWELL star can’t cook. At all.
The series is produced by UK indie Twofour. It’s a joy from start to finish and was picked by the Guardian as one of the 50 best TV shows to watch this autumn.
