Becoming a Wyoming hog hugging champion was Fergus’ way into TV. It got him his first interviews, mainly so people could ask what a hog hugging champion actually does. Ultimately it has led to a twenty year career directing - firstly dramas, now a mix of premium/feature docs and drama docs.
Most recently Fergus’s film, Titanic: The Digital Resurrection reached #2 across all Disney + output in the US, receiving huge press coverage internationally along with astonishing reviews. The multi-million dollar project involved building the biggest virtual production stage in the UK to make the most of a groundbreaking 3D scan of the wreck of Titanic in search of answers on what happened the night it sank.
Before this Fergus was series director and showrunner on Feds with Oscar winning exec producer Octavia Spencer. The series had unique access to serving FBI agents as they, along with informants, undercovers and victims, told stories of the agency’s biggest investigations and takedowns in recent years. It included the story of a militia bomb plot, the size of Oklahoma in the 90s, set to go off the day after Trump was elected president in 2016.
Fergus has also made drama docs for some leading companies including Raw, October Films, Blast and Arrow. Among these were six episodes of Raw’s smash hit series Banged Up Abroad that covered wild tales, ranging from international drug and animal smugglers, to Isis kidnap victims to a mafioso come FBI informant charged with bringing down a New York crime boss.
Whatever the project, Fergus is a team player with a huge amount of experience looking to push both story and style boundaries to create the most stand out and entertaining shows. He does this thanks to knowledge gleaned from working with incredible teams across the world. Fergus also loves to bring on and encourage new talent giving them a chance to develop within an experienced team.
When not filming, Fergus plays clarinet (current favourite is Klezmer) while also shooting and developing black and white film stills for a range of photo projects.
