True Crime Awards win for Gareth Johnson’s hit documentary

Huge congratulations to Stern & Wild filmmaker Gareth Johnson whose brilliant three-part docuseries The Body Next Door won the On Screen: Outstanding Three-or-More-Part Docuseries prize at the 2025 True Crime Awards.

The series premiered on Sky in August 2024 to rave reviews and soon became the channel's most-watched documentary ever. The Guardian’s Rachel Aroesti described it as “jaw-droppingly addictive” while the i paper’s Emily Watkins said it was “one of the best docs I've ever seen”. The Daily Mail quoted some of the show’s viewers who hailed the series as one they “couldn’t turn off” and the “most compelling series yet” in the true crime genre.

A RAW production for Sky Documentaries, the series pieces together the story of one of the most bizarre murder investigations of the last decade. In November 2015, a macabre discovery thrust Beddau, a sleepy former mining village in the heart of the Welsh Valleys, into the spotlight. What began as a seemingly harmless prank involving a medical skeleton took a horrifying turn when it was revealed that the ‘skeleton’ was, in fact, a real human body. The production uncovers a gripping murder mystery intertwined with a dramatic family saga reaching from the Valleys to the suburbs of New Zealand.

The series is directed by Gareth and produced by Phelen Glen. Exec Producers are Louise Norman and Keeley Van Dyke for RAW and Tom Barry for Sky. We’re delighted for Gareth and the whole team.

It is available to watch on Sky Documentaries and NOW.
