Brilliant documentary helmed by Fergus Colville wins Buzzie award
Huge shout out to Stern & Wild filmmaker Fergus Colville, Director of the Nat Geo documentary special TITANIC: THE DIGITAL RESURRECTION, which was announced as winner of the Best Science Program/Content (Long Format) award at the 2025 Buzzies.
The 90-minute film follows a team from independent producer Atlantic Productions and sea mapping company Magellan as they create the first-ever full-scale, 3D high-resolution digital scan of the entire RMS Titanic shipwreck using over 715,000 underwater images and 16 terabytes of data captured by Magellan in 2022, in what the filmmakers describe as “the largest underwater scanning project in history”. The film then gathers a group of leading historians, engineers and forensic experts to explore the extraordinary 1:1 “digital twin” and reconstruct the ship’s final moments: "challenging long-held assumptions and revealing new insights into what truly happened on that fateful night in 1912”.
TITANIC: THE DIGITAL RESURRECTION is produced by Atlantic Productions for National Geographic. For Atlantic, Anthony Geffen is Producer, Lina Zilinskaite is Senior Producer and Fergus is the Director. Simon Raikes and Chad Cohen are Executive Producers for Nat Geo. It first aired on Nat Geo and Disney+ in April 2025.
The Buzzies are awarded annually at the World Congress of Science and Factual Producers to “recognise excellence in science, history and factual storytelling”. The 2025 winners were announced at an awards ceremony held in Rio de Janeiro in December. For a full list of winners, click here.
