A hat-trick of Rockie Awards for Stern & Wild filmmakers
Three fantastic projects from Stern & Wild filmmakers were among the winners at last night’s Rockie Awards International Programme Competition. Congratulations to Toby Trackman, Leila Monks, Robin O’Sullivan and Leo McCrea.
Two of the projects won awards in the DOCUMENTARY & FACTUAL strand.
The haunting feature documentary THE LAST MUSICIAN OF AUSCHWITZ (Two Rivers Media/Access Entertainment/Abacus Distribution/BBC) was announced the winner in the Arts & Culture category. Directed by Toby Trackman, the film was commissioned by the BBC to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz. It was first broadcast on BBC Two to mark Holocaust Memorial Day on 27 January 2025. The Guardian named it among the best TV of the year in 2025.
The winner in the Short Form Non-Fiction Series category is the breathtaking six-part docuseries GUARDIANS (The Royal Foundation of The Prince and Princess of Wales/United for Wildlife/ZANDLAND) which is exec produced by Leila Monks. From the snowy mountains of the Himalayas to the remote rainforests of Brazil, the digital-first series highlights the critical work of rangers – the world’s unsung conservation heroes – as they work to protect endangered wildlife and fragile ecosystems.
In the ARTS & ENTERTAINMENT strand, the wonderful six-part series NO TASTE LIKE HOME WITH ANTONI POROWSKI (Studio Ramsay Global/Nat Geo) won the Lifestyle award. The show follows the culinary expert and star of Queer Eye as he travels the globe with celebrity guests – including Awkwafina, Henry Golding and Florence Pugh – to explore their ancestral gastronomic roots. Robin O’Sullivan is Showrunner and Exec Producer, while Leo McCrea, who worked with Robin to lead the directing charge and set the series style, is Director of three of the show’s episodes. The Rockie is the third major prize for this series following a Best Structured Series win at the 2025 Critics Choice Real TV Awards and a win in the Lifestyle – Food category at the 2026 Realscreen Awards.
Three cheers all round and congratulations again to all our brilliant filmmakers.
