Simon is a seasoned BAFTA, Rose d’Or and RTS award winning filmmaker with 30 years experience Directing and Exec Producing factual series and one-off documentaries.
Most recently, Simon has been collaborating with John Battsek’s Ventureland on two films which he developed: ‘Winter K2’, the story of the controversial winter ascent of K2 in 2021, which he is producing; and ‘We Are Birds’ a deeply personal portrait of a family of paragliding pilots struggling to come to terms with the death of their youngest brother, which he is producing and directing. ‘We Are Birds’ is Executive Produced by documentary veteran Fisher Stevens, who directed the highly successful Beckham series for Netflix. Prior to these films, Simon made ‘Chasing’, the story of one man’s obsession to row the Atlantic, which was Exec Produced by the Oscar winning producer of Free Solo, Evan Hayes and sold to Amazon Prime.
Over his career, Simon has delivered premium shows for National Geographic, Discovery +, Amazon, C4, Sky and ITV; worked with Hollywood A-listers and top UK talent; produced the premiere seasons of the world’s biggest formats from I’m A Celebrity to Survivor and Pop Idol and directed commercials and brand films for Diageo, Publicis, Booking.com and Amazon.
Simon is a calm, wise, tenacious team leader with a wealth of knowledge across all sides of production from creating ideas to financing and distribution. He is passionate about telling intimate stories about extraordinary characters particularly from the worlds of sport and adventure and adept at working and managing private finance. His work in the factual and entertainment sectors has driven his success in the world of commercials and branded content.
