Stern & Wild client’s latest project explores Black British identity through the lens of prominent British personalities
Shout out to Stern & Wild filmmaker Alex Thomas, one of the Directors on MISSION MOTHERLAND, a newly announced docuseries for BET UK which follows Black British celebrities and family members as they trace their ancestral histories and explore themes of Black British identity.
Alex directed the first episode of the four-part series which features presenter and singer Alesha Dixon as she travels to Jamaica with her brother Jerome to uncover her family’s hidden past and their ancestral land. Other participants include rapper and musician AJ Tracey and his brother Mickey who visit Trinidad; actor Jimmy Akingbola – fostered to a white family in the UK – who reconnects with his lost heritage in Nigeria with his brother Sola; and broadcaster Clara Amfo who goes to Ghana with her brother Chris.
The series is produced by Big Deal Films (DREAMING WHILST BLACK) and WPP Media Motion Entertainment. It was commissioned by BET UK’s Editorial and Commissioning Executive Cicelia Deane, who is Exec Producer for WPP Media Motion Entertainment alongside Deep Sehgal, while Dhanny Joshi and Thomas Stogdon as Exec producers for Big Deal. Shurwin Beckford is Series Producer.
It will launch on Channel 5’s streaming service and the BET International YouTube channel later in the year.
