Story of the quest for Middle East peace set to round off Sky’s major new series based on David Frost interviews
The final three episodes of Sky’s fascinating new retrospective docuseries David Frost vs… are set to drop on Wednesday this week, ending with a brilliant film focusing on the search for a lasting Middle East peace deal directed by Stern and Wild filmmaker Marion Milne.
The six-part series charts almost half a century of social change using decades’ of interviews conducted by celebrated broadcaster Sir David Frost with key political and cultural figures from members of The Beatles to Muhammad Ali. Each episode is anchored around Frost’s interviews with a key personality or group and includes contributions from a range of contemporary commentators.
Marion’s episode Frost vs The Middle East covers a story that Frost found himself returning to throughout his 50-year career: the search for peace between Israel and Palestine. His first interview on the conflict was with Moshe Dayan in 1968 after the Six Day War, his last was with President Shimon Peres in 2012 shortly before he died. In between he interviewed Yasser Arafat, Yitzhak Rabin and Benjamin Netanyahu multiple times, as well as Western leaders involved in the peace process. Two of them – Tony Blair and Bill Clinton – contribute to the episode to reflect upon Frost's skill as an interviewer, and his unique ability to bring both sides together.
‘The search for peace in the Middle East is told through the prism of David Frost’s unseen and absolutely remarkable interviews with the key players,’ says Marion. ‘It’s truly been a privilege to have spent time with these extraordinary statesmen, who – through Frost’s unparalleled ability to talk to both sides – open our eyes to the tragedy and reality of the Israel/Palestine conflict.’
The series is a Sky Studios production made in collaboration with David Frost’s son Wilfred, with the family’s Paradine Productions and White Horse Pictures as co-producers. It was commissioned by Zai Bennett, MD of Content for Sky UK and Ireland, and Poppy Dixon, Director of Documentaries and Factual. Hayley Reynolds is the Commissioning Editor. Exec Producers are Danielle Peck for Sky Studios, Wilfred Frost for Paradine, and Nigel Sinclair and Cassidy Hartmann for White Horse. The other episodes dropping this week are Frost vs Richard Nixon directed by Liz Mermin and Frost vs Elton John directed by Francis Longhurst.
The final episodes will air on Sky and streaming service NOW from 9.00pm on Wednesday 14 May. Watch the series here.
