Irvine Welsh documentary picked as one of Screen’s hottest UK titles available to buyers at Cannes this year
Feature documentary Irvine Welsh: Reality Is Not Enough directed by Stern & Wild filmmaker Paul Sng was selected by Screen this week as one of the 20 buzziest projects from the UK at this year’s Cannes Film Market.
Previously titled I Am Irvine Welsh, the film offers a glimpse into the mind of the prolific author and artist as he embarks on what the production notes describe as ‘a wild new journey exploring the boundaries of consciousness through a hallucinogenic trip’. It uses both contemporary and archive footage, conversations, music and personal reminiscence to explore themes of class, mortality, creativity and identity in Welsh’s work, and features readings from his novels by actors and artists including Nick Cave, Stephen Graham, Liam Neeson, Ruth Negga and Maxine Peake.
The film is an LS Films production and is being distributed by Kaleidoscope. Paul is Writer, Director and Producer. It is one of two feature docs in Screen’s top 20 (alongside Max Pugh’s Interbeing). To read about all 20 UK picks, click here.
