Two projects from Stern & Wild clients in the running for this year’s News & Documentary Emmys
Huge congratulations to Stern & Wild filmmakers Miles Blayden-Ryall and Natalie Hewit whose brilliant projects have been nominated for this year's News & Documentary Emmy Awards.
We are delighted for Miles and the whole team behind the fantastic feature doc Silverback, which has been nominated for the Outstanding Nature Documentary prize. Miles directed, filmed and edited the 90-minute film which follows wildlife cameraman Vianet Djenguet as he joins the effort to protect the critically endangered eastern lowland gorillas of the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
A Grierson Award winner and 3x Jackson Wild Media Award winner, Silverback was previously nominated for a BAFTA TV Craft Award and RTS Programme Award and is in contention for a Banff World Media Festival Rockie Award in June.
We are thrilled too for Natalie and the team behind the feature doc Endurance, most especially award-winning composer Daniel Pemberton, who wrote the score for the groundbreaking production which is nominated in the Outstanding Music Composition – Documentary category. The 100-minute film tells the story of polar explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton and his crew’s extraordinary feat of survival during the ill-fated Imperial Trans-Antarctic Expedition (1914-1917) and the search by modern-day explorers to find his sunken ship.
The film is co-directed by Natalie, whose documentation of the expedition to find the wreck of the Endurance in 2022 secured Reach the World’s Cronkite Award for Exploration and Storytelling, alongside Oscar-winning directors Elizabeth Chai Vasarhelyi and Jimmy Chin. Elizabeth and Natalie won a 2025 Gracie Award for the project, while Daniel was nominated for best original score for a documentary at the 2024 HMMA Awards and 2025 IFMCA Awards.
The Documentary Emmys will be presented at a ceremony at the Palladium Times Square in New York on 26 June. (The News awards ceremony is a day earlier, 25 June.) For a full list of all nominees, click here.
