Stern & Wild client’s latest true-crime feature doc set for May release on Netflix
We are thrilled to report the latest project from Stern & Wild filmmaker Gareth Johnson is set to premiere on Netflix on 15 May 2026. Feature documentary THE CRASH examines the notorious case of Ohio teenager Mackenzie Shirilla, who intentionally crashed her car into a brick wall in 2022, killing her boyfriend and his best friend.
Described by the judge at her trial as ‘hell on wheels’, 17-year-old Shirilla was charged with the murder of Dominic Russo and Davion Flanagan and was convicted of 12 felony charges and sentenced to life in prison. The film examines the events leading up to the fatal crash, which first appeared to be a tragic accident, and uncovers the volatile relationship at the centre of the case that would lead to the cold-blooded crime.
A RAW production for Netflix, the film is helmed by award-winning director Gareth whose 2024 true-crime docuseries THE BODY NEXT DOOR (RAW for Sky Documentaries) is one of Sky’s all-time most-watched documentaries. THE CRASH is produced by RAW’s Rebecca North and exec produced by Jonny Taylor.
