New documentary from Stern & Wild client uncovers the Church of England’s biggest scandal
Congratulations to Stern & Wild filmmaker Kira Phillips and her brilliant colleague Hamish Fergusson, Executive Producers of SEE NO EVIL, the harrowing new documentary from Passion Pictures which airs on Channel 4 over two consecutive nights starting tomorrow (10 Dec) at 9.00pm.
Described by Series Director Benedict Sanderson as “part horror film, part investigative thriller, part family drama”, the film offers a forensic exploration of the decades of abuse by former barrister and evangelical leader John Smyth and the subsequent cover-up by senior leaders within the Church of England and other institutions. It investigates how Smyth was able to evade responsibility for abusing over 100 boys and young men at his home and the Christian summer camps he ran for so long, the fight to bring him to justice, and how the scandal eventually led to the resignation of the Archbishop of Canterbury. It includes searing testimony from some of Smyth’s victims including his own children and features the first ever interview with his wife of 50 years.
SEE NO EVIL is a Passion Pictures production for Channel 4. It was commissioned by Anna Miralis, C4’s Senior Commissioning Editor, Documentaries and Factual Entertainment. It will be available to stream on the Channel 4 platform following its first broadcast on Wednesday.
