Big night for Stern & Wild filmmakers at the RTS Programme Awards 2026

We are thrilled to announce that three projects from our super talented filmmakers scored big at last night’s RTS Programme Awards with wins in the Arts, Documentary Series and History categories. Shout out to Jenny Ash, Karen Kelly, Alex Thomas and Toby Trackman.

Huge congratulations to Toby Trackman, Director of feature documentary THE LAST MUSICIAN OF AUSCHWITZ (Two Rivers Media in association with Access for BBC) which won the best Arts programme award. The haunting production, which was commissioned by the BBC to mark the 80th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz, was universally praised by the judges.

“An extraordinarily affecting film… this was a masterpiece,” they said.

Congratulations too to Alex Thomas, Series Director of the powerful three-part documentary BIBAA & NICOLE: MURDER IN THE PARK (True Vision TV for Sky Documentaries) which won the best Documentary Series prize. The series revisits the harrowing story behind the killings of sisters Bibaa Henry and Nicole Smallman in 2020, and the shocking police misconduct that followed. It has been widely praised for giving a powerful voice to the sisters’ friends and family and creating positive changes in Metropolitan Police procedures.

The judges said the series “told a deeply impactful story with great care, handling trusted access with genuine sensitivity and responsibility”.

Final congratulations to the wonderfully talented Jenny Ash whose acclaimed feature documentary FLIGHT 149: HOSTAGE OF WAR (Drum Studios for Sky Documentaries) won the award for best History production. Originated, written and directed by Jenny, the film was exec produced by Karen Kelly. It tells the extraordinary story of the nearly 400 passengers and crew of BA Flight 149, who unknowingly landed in Kuwait just hours after the Iraqi invasion began in 1990 – and were taken hostage by Saddam Hussein to be used as human shields.

The judges described the film as “a complex story told with profound clarity, a fine work with a gripping sense of purpose”.

We are delighted for all the winners and nominees. Congratulations to them and all the hugely talented teams behind each and every production honoured on the night. For a full list of winners, click here.
